About Us

Join The Neighborhood Movement

We are a grassroots movement of Palos Verdes citizens that believes the State of California’s approach to dealing with the need for housing is misguided and needs to be reformed. We are not against affordable housing, but we are against forced over-development which destroys the fabric of neighborhoods.

STOP the large development in Silver Spur Canyon

ADVOCATE for the rapid passage of RPV’s Housing Element

RETURN the control over planning & zoning to local governments

REPEAL the Builder’s Remedy law

3 Things You Need to Know

  1. This massive project is being built under the Builder’s Remedy law - a State law that allows developers to BYPASS almost all local zoning laws (and citizen input) and build ANY SIZE housing project on formerly SINGLE FAMILY HOME lots, as long as the project contains a small number of affordable units.

  2. A development of this size will add 1,000 or more people into the neighborhood around Silver Spur Elementary, tripling the number of housing units in the area and adding up to 500 additional cars on our narrow neighborhood streets. This will affect traffic, pedestrian safety, and further worsen the potential for an EVACUATION DISASTER should fire race up the canyon in this High Fire Risk area Not just for the new residents, but ALL residents using Silver Spur Rd or Montemalaga Dr.

  3. The City has limited ability to shut down such a project under this law, which was created by the State to encourage a massive amount of new building throughout California. WE NEED TO BE PREPARED AS CITIZENS TO FIGHT THE DEVELOPMENT ON OUR OWN; in court of necessary. If projects like this succeed we will see even more developers taking advantage of places like Palos Verdes to reap big profits by forcing in high density developments against the wishes of residents.
